BAÑOS

Baños de Agua Santa is located in the province of Tungurahua, only 180 Km south of the capital of the country, Quito. It has 1800 inhabitants, and has a temperate, humid climate. Its temperature can vary between 16 C and 24 C throughout the year. Baños, located at the foor of the Tungurahua Volcano at 1826 meters, is located in a valley full of waterfalls and thermal hot springs. The Tungurahua Volacano, also called “the black giant”, has been in an active process since 1999 and is one of the easiest volcanoes to climb in Ecuador. On its slopes there are many small, Indigenous, agricultural villages. Baños is one of the most popular cities in the country to practice several adventure sports such as rafting, kayaking, canyoning, rock climbing, bungee jumping, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, and so on. Baños also offers a vibrant night life with more than 30 peñas, bars, discotheques. There are also more than 80 restaurants and coffee bars. It is also one of the few cities in Ecuador that is handicapped accesible. There are five thermal hot springs heated the Tungurahua Volcano. They have a temperature between 18C and 55 C. Baños is a wonderful city for adventure, rest and, of course, for studying Spanish!
