HELPING CHILDREN TO STUDY

Many Ecuadorian children do not go to school, especially girls because their parents do not have enough money to buy all the necessary supplies in order to start classes every year. During the last 4 years, new educational laws have changed slowly but in a good way. Parents do not have to buy the basic books, but must buy books for special subjects like English and all the other necessary supplies. They also have to buy the whole uniform that consists of two pair of shoes, two trousers or skirts, shirts, and a sweater if they live in the sierra. These basic costs are too much for a medium-income family and the 40% of the country’s families living in poverty. This is why our school looks for people who want to help children in order to continue their studies. Currently we have 6 children getting economic help, two from the coast, three from Baños and one from Otavalo, but we have many other children waiting for help. People who are helping are ex-students from Raices who met the children before and decided to help. They also decided how much they can give every year and how long to continue doing it. We are only a channel between helpers and the children. We invite you to be part of this informal program and help not only with the development of the country but the development of a human being.
